Blogging

Presidential candidate John Edwards announced today that he continuing his campaign despite the reappearance of cancer in his wife Elizabeth. However hours before Edwards made his announcement, blogger Ben Smith posted a entry on his blog saying that Edwards was throwing in the towel.

Although Smith apologized for his error — I am not so sure he made one. He was quoting a source that he trusted. He was quoting a source that he believed to be in the loop.

Jason Calacanis, the now former CEO of Weblogs, Inc has announced that he is quitting AOL.

I hope he wasn’t forced out. I hope he decided to take the money he made from the sale of his company to AOL and live the good life.

God knows I would have left a long time ago, and would right now, be sipping margaritas in Cabo San Lucas with naked Spanish women dancing around me.

Here is a good blog entry on attracting regular readers.

Commenting on other people’s blogs… linking… and WRITING regularly are the most important.

Many bloggers STILL don’t get that you need to build a list of readers. A newsletter or ezine pulls readers back.

It appears that the same guys who lead all the lemmings to the dot com bust are still out there…

How much is your website worth? That’s not an easy question to answer, but one way to measure the value is to look at the metrics of sites that have already been sold.

What a joke.

Sports blogs and Sports Blog Inc. have taken off.

Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, the founder of the left-leaning political blog Daily Kos realized in 2005 that capitalism wasn’t as evil as he originally thought and created Sports Blog Inc. (Isn’t it amazing how liberals switch sides when they realize that ‘greed is good’ and that the gov’t takes too much?)

I have talked about sports blogs before but I have decided to create a new category (Sports Blogs) here and watch it a bit more closely. It seems to be a very lucrative niche — one that I may be exploring in the future.

Lynn Terry shares an avatar creator with her readers, and included an avatar of herself…

I found an easy avatar creator today, and created the avatar that you see to the right. Yes, that’s my imaginary version of myself :P

Suprisingly, I have always imagined her with less clothes on, like the avatar below. :D

Want a simple formula for millions?

Just pay attention to what Paul Short is doing over at BlogLogic.net.

Jason Calacanis (Weblogs Inc.) and Nick Denton (Gawker Media) did the same thing. Jason just sold his network to AOL for a reported $25 million. Nick Denton is holding on to his network (which is what I would do too).

The formula?

Lynn Terry is wasting no time breaking in her new WordPress blog. She has just completed a redesign and it looks pretty snazzy.

Now that she is using purple I will have to change. Because I feel…

Here is a great site that covers SEO for WordPress. And my favorite piece of advice is…

Writing appealing content will always draw more visitors than having content which is bland and/or generic. There are many sites which use a cut-and-paste method for compiling tons and tons of content, but the search engines see this and these sites are penalized. Make your content original and worth reading, and you’ll surely be more successful in the long run.

I have been saying the exact same thing for YEARS. All that voodoo black hat SEO crap doesn’t mean jack. Just serve up what people are looking for and you will pull them in!

A great blog entry on how important a great title is…

The purpose of a post title is to give you some idea of what the post content is…before you go to the trouble of click/selecting it.

Blog readers are busy. In a hurry.
